What is the main difference between PETG and standard PET resin? +
Unlike standard PET, PETG contains a glycol modifier that prevents crystallization when heated. This makes it highly amorphous, offering superior thermoforming capabilities, better impact resistance, and preventing the material from becoming brittle or opaque during high-temperature processing.
Does PETG resin need to be dried before processing? +
Yes. Like most polyesters, PETG is hygroscopic. It must be properly dried in a desiccant dryer — typically at 65 ℃ to 70 ℃ (149 ℉ – 158 ℉) for 4 to 6 hours — prior to extrusion or molding to prevent moisture-related defects like bubbles or loss of mechanical properties.
