The bopp film manufacturing process is a precisely controlled industrial sequence that transforms polypropylene resin into high-performance packaging materials. When additional functional layers are applied, the standard bopp film becomes coated BOPP film, offering enhanced barrier properties, improved sealability, or superior print performance. Understanding each stage of the bopp film manufacturing process helps explain how coated BOPP film achieves its consistent quality and functionality across flexible packaging applications.
The first stage of the bopp film manufacturing process begins with polypropylene resin preparation. Raw materials are blended with additives such as anti-block agents, slip modifiers, or stabilizers. The material is then fed into an extruder, where it is melted under controlled temperature conditions. Through a flat die system, the molten polymer is cast into a sheet form. At this stage, the primary structure of the bopp film is created, forming the foundation for further orientation and coating steps.
Modern extrusion lines use high-precision temperature control systems and automatic thickness gauges to ensure uniformity. This is essential because consistent base quality directly affects the performance of the final coated BOPP film.
After extrusion, the film undergoes biaxial orientation, which is the core of the bopp film manufacturing process. In this stage, the film is stretched in both the machine direction (MD) and transverse direction (TD). Machine direction orientation is typically achieved using a series of heated rollers, while transverse direction orientation is performed in a tenter frame oven.
This stretching improves tensile strength, clarity, and stiffness of the bopp film. The orientation process defines many mechanical properties required for producing high-quality coated BOPP film. Once stretched, the film is heat-set to stabilize its dimensions.
Before converting into coated BOPP film, the base bopp film usually undergoes surface treatment. Corona treatment machines increase the surface energy of the film, improving adhesion between the film and subsequent coatings. Proper surface preparation is a critical stage in the bopp film manufacturing process, ensuring uniform coating application and strong bonding performance.
Online surface inspection systems monitor treatment levels to maintain consistency across the entire roll of bopp film.
