DTF (Direct to Film) printing has become one of the most popular garment decoration technologies thanks to its vibrant colors, soft hand feel, excellent stretchability, and compatibility with cotton, polyester, blends, denim, canvas and many other fabrics.
However, when customers experience DTF cracking, DTF peeling, or DTF print lifting after washing, many assume the transfer film is defective.
In reality, most failures are caused by improper heat pressing, unsuitable fabrics, or incorrect garment care, rather than the DTF transfer film itself.

Low pressing temperature prevents the adhesive powder from fully melting and bonding with the fabric fibers.
Even with the correct temperature, insufficient pressing time results in incomplete bonding.
DTF transfers require adequate pressure so the adhesive can penetrate into the textile fibers.

Low-quality TPU adhesive powder often causes:
Weak adhesion
Poor wash resistance
Early peeling

Premium DTF PET Transfer Film provides:
Uniform release coating
Stable ink absorption
Excellent dimensional stability
Smooth peeling performance

Washing above 40°C (104°F) accelerates adhesive aging and reduces durability.
Bleach damages:
TPU adhesive
Ink layer
Fabric fibers
High dryer temperatures can cause:
DTF cracking
DTF peeling
Edge lifting
Direct friction inside the washing machine significantly shortens print life.
Allow the adhesive to fully cure. Wait at least 24 hours before the first wash.
Use:
Premium DTF Transfer Film
High-quality DTF Ink
Premium TPU Hot Melt Powder
Correct heat press temperature
Proper pressure
Recommended pressing time
Optional second press
Proper garment care
Allow the garment to rest for 24 hours before the first wash.
Wash in cold or warm water (below 40°C / 104°F).
Turn garments inside out. Wash on a gentle cycle. Avoid soaking for extended periods.
Use mild detergent. Do not use bleach.
Air drying is recommended. If using a dryer, select low heat.
Never iron directly on the print. Iron inside out or place a protective cloth over the design.
Frequent dry cleaning is not recommended.
When using premium DTF Transfer Film, DTF Ink, and TPU Hot Melt Powder, together with proper heat pressing and garment care, DTF prints can typically withstand 50–100+ wash cycles while maintaining vibrant colors, excellent stretch, and strong adhesion with minimal risk of DTF cracking, DTF peeling, or fading.
DTF print cracking or peeling after washing does not necessarily indicate a defective transfer film. In most cases, these issues are caused by incorrect heat press settings, low-quality adhesive powder or ink, unsuitable fabric characteristics, or improper washing and garment care. By choosing premium DTF Transfer Film, DTF Ink, and TPU Hot Melt Powder, while following recommended heat press parameters and care instructions, you can achieve outstanding wash durability, flexibility, vibrant color retention, and long-lasting print performance that keeps customers satisfied.
